Kurt was born in Colorado but was raised for most of his life here in Flagstaff. He attended Flagstaff High School where he was a varsity athlete in both football and basketball and an overall good student. Kurt attended Arizona State University the year after graduating but realized the heat and the size were not for him, so he returned to Flagstaff and attended Northern Arizona University where he received his B.A. in English and B.S in Education. The greatest moments of his life came when he married his wife Michelle and when Michelle gave birth to their two children, a daughter named Lillee Selah and Son named Jak William.

Kurt began at Forest Highlands in 2002 when a classmate from one of his education classes called and asked him if he might be interested in a recreation counselor job at Forest Highlands. He was interested and started that April. He worked two years as a Recreation counselor before being moved up to the Assistant Director position, which is where he stayed for three years until 2007 when he was promoted to the Director of Recreation.

Kurt’s responsibilities as the Director of Recreation includes overseeing the Recreation Centers and all recreation programs, both the Canyon and Meadow pools, the Fitness facility and Fitness/spa amenities, help with the parks sport areas including the Bocce courts and dog park, and Residential Services. Kurt has always had a desire to work with the youth and through his sport and education background found that recreation fits him very well. Over the last 15 years of working for Forest Highlands Kurt has truly enjoyed the member relationships he has formed and looks forward to continuing the quest to make the recreation department the best it can be.
