She graduated from Iowa State University with a Journalism degree and served as editor of ISU yearbook.
Transitioning to corporate life, Barbara worked for Honeywell in promotional capacities in several of their divisions. She was awarded her Master’s in Marketing Communications from the University of Minnesota while working for Honeywell.
The best job ever was working for Tonka Toys designing and implementing their advertising and sales promotion programs and managing their sales showroom in New York City.
Changing direction, Barbara passed the Certified Financial Planning Degree (CFP) and joined her husband, Philip, in starting a fee-only financial practice in Des Moines, Iowa. They worked with families advising them in all their financial matters and personal concerns.
The Svanoes moved to Forest Highlands in 2010. While Philip is frequently on the golf course, Barbara and their dog, Evie, can be spotted walking in the pines.
